Paul George informed the Indiana Pacers, per a report by The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Sunday that he plans to leave the franchise. George is a free agent after the 2017-18 season. The All-Star forward has made it clear he wants to play for his home town Lakers but which team is the favorite to retain his services in 2017?
L.A. has no plans to make a bid for PG-13, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reports. The Lakers don’t need to give up assets for a player that has already expressed interest in joining their team. Could Magic get nervous about George playing for another contender and make a panic move? There are 13/4 odds that George starts the season in Hollywood.
The Cavs are in win-now mode with LeBron James potential free agency looming. Cleveland could trade Kevin Love to get the three-time All-NBA player. While that move certainly makes sense, the defending Eastern Conference champs are working on a multi-team trade to acquire Jimmy Butler. The oddsmakers give a 12.5% chance that George is a Cavalier in Game 1.
George is in the prime of his career, any team in the NBA would be lucky to have him. However, Indiana is the most likely team (2/3 odds) to start George in Game 1 of the 2017 season. The Pacers will move their star but the question isn’t when but how much do they get back in return?
What team will Paul George play for in Game 1 of 2017-18 NBA Season? (Bovada)
- Pacers 2/3
- Lakers 13/4
- Cavaliers 7/1
- Clippers 9/1
- Wizards 12/1
- Suns 16/1
- Any other team 4/1
