Blake Bortles is not a good quarterback. He has been top five in interceptions every year since being drafted in the first round. The Jags quarterback led the league with 18 picks in 2015 and is the betting favorite to do so in 2017.
Jacksonville’s starter is technically the favorite but there are four other quarterbacks expected to give Bortles a run for his money. Philip Rivers had the dubious honor of throwing the most interceptions last year. Eli Manning has accomplished the feat three times and Jameis Winston has averaged 16.5 picks in his two years in the league. Then there is Jared Goff who started seven games as a rookie and threw seven interceptions. Over a full season he would be among the league leaders in picks.
Deshaun Watson is the only rookie with odds. Houston traded up for Watson in the first round but Tom Savage is currently listed as the starter on the depth chart. Watson wasn’t the best at protecting the ball in college. Last year at Clemson he threw 17 interceptions.
Less than half the starting quarterbacks in the league have odds. That is why the field is among the favorites. If something were to happen to Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick is his backup.
An interesting bet is Andrew Luck at 20/1. Consensus projections have the Colts quarterback throwing 16.4 interceptions, that is second most in the league.
No one wants to lead the NFL in interceptions but someone has to. Can you profit from their failure?
