Fly Eagles Fly! Philadelphia beat Chicago on Monday Night Football last night to move to 2-0 on the young season. Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz looks like the real deal and is the highest rated passer according to Pro Football Focus. It is time to celebrate in Philadelphia. Right? Well, I’m here to tell you to pump the brakes on the Eagles. Please don’t throw a battery at me.
While it’s great for a young quarterback to look competent early, let’s remember that they have beaten the Bears and the Browns. THE BEARS AND THE BROWNS. But rather than just spout opinions about what I think will happen, I turned to the NFL simulation once again. For those unfamiliar, we simulate the rest of the season 10,000 times and record the results. Here are the NFC East divisional odds from that simulation:
New York Giants 45.9%
Dallas Cowboys 31.1%
Philadelphia Eagles 19.4%
Washington Redskins 3.6%
The Eagles are behind both the Giants and Cowboys in terms of chances to win the division. The Giants are also 2-0 yet aren’t getting the fanfare that the Eagles are. New York has two better wins against the Cowboys and Saints and has a more proven quarterback in Eli Manning. I’m not trying to rain on your parade Eagles fans, but let’s wait until Philly and Wentz have beaten some more quality competition before we declare them champions of anything. They will get a chance this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
