The Cy Young races are heating up. Who is the best pitcher in baseball? That is debatable but we do know who the favorites are to win the AL and NL Cy Young.

American League

If Dallas Keuchel (+105) is 1. A, then Chris Sale (+150) is 1. B among Cy Young favorites. The Astros’ ace has a miniscule 1.67 ERA while Sale is tops in baseball with a 3.6 WAR and 12.75 K/9. It is hard to see either hurler fading down the stretch.

One of the biggest surprises in baseball has been the Twins. Minnesota sits atop the AL Central and Ervin Santana has been the team’s best pitcher. The Twins starter is top five in ERA but has an unsustainable BABIP (.153, best in baseball). Santana began the season at +10000 but is now +1400.

National League

Clayton Kershaw has won the Cy Young three times and is the favorite once again to take home the hardware. He is second in the NL in ERA (2.28) and WAR (2.2). The future Hall of Famer is -120, implied probability suggests he is 54.5% likely to win.

The reigning Cy Young winner, Max Scherzer, is +375. He has a better K/9 (11.64) than Kershaw and his team is running away with its division unlike the Dodgers. However, Scherzer might not be the best pitcher on his team. The Nationals other ace, Stephen Strasburg, has the best WAR (2.3) among pitchers in the National League.

Antonio Senzatela is a longshot with some value per ESPN’s Cy Young Predictor. The Rockies rookie is 7-2 with a 3.49 ERA. According to the projection he has the seventh best odds of winning the AL Cy Young but he is just the 15th betting favorite at +6600.
