Biggest Money-line Upsets

Iowa (+1203) vs. Michigan

Freshman kicker Keith Duncan made a 33-yard field goal as time expired and Iowa upended No. 3 Michigan 14-13. The loss might not hurt the Wolverines, if the team wins out it could still make the College Football Playoff.

Pittsburgh (+991) at Clemson

Deshaun Watson threw three interceptions, Pitt stuffed Clemson on fourth down at midfield and Chris Blewitt hit a 48-yard field goal with six second remaining to upset the Tigers 43-42. It was Clemson’s first loss to an unranked opponent in five seasons and ended the team’s 21 game home winning streak.

Georgia Tech (+447) at Virginia Tech

The Hokies and their fan base were pumped for this game, the team entered with a chance to clinch the ACC’s Coastal Division. However, Georgia Tech’s backup quarterback Matthew Jordan rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns leading the Yellow Jackets to a surprising 30-20 win. Virginia Tech committed four turnovers in the loss.

UL Monroe (+401) at Georgia State

Running back Thomas Koufie carried the ball 31 times for 201 yards and five scores as the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe topped Georgia State 37-23. UL Monroe was a 12.5 point underdog in the game.

Washington vs. USC

Something had to give, the Huskies were undefeated and the Trojans were on a five game winning streak. USC got the better of Washington Saturday, Sam Darnold threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-13 upset. The Men of Troy were +284 money-line underdogs. The loss puts Washington’s chance of reaching the College Football Playoff in doubt.

Trend Highlight – Road Dogs off Home Win

We talked about this Pro System in our Trend of the Week article and how it applied to the Washington/USC game. Road teams in conference games are often undervalued, this is especially true if that team is coming off a cover as a home favorite.

USC met all the qualifications and came through for us not only covering the spread but winning the game outright.
