The countdown is over as the college football season starts Saturday. The first game is an opportunity for teams to set the tone for the remainder of the season. The same is true for bettors. As you analyze matchups and determine which side to wager here are the best college football coaches against-the-spread in Week 1.

The Best

Any list that includes Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher and Chris Petersen at the top is legit. These coaches not only win games at an absurd rate but also manage to cover the spread for bettors in Week 1.

The Worst

Mark Dantonio has brought three Big Ten Championships to Michigan State but Sparty’s coach as struggled to cover in the first game out of the gate. Perhaps the most surprising coach on this list is Kansas State’s Bill Snyder. The Wildcats head coach is 17-3 ATS after week one when his team has more than seven days to prepare for an opponent.

These are small samples with little predictive power but it is interesting that some of the best coaches in college football are also the most profitable in Week 1.
